After every 8 moves, the side that should reply misses one turn. This happens even if that side is in check, and the mover keeps the initiative.

- Use the extra tempo to improve your worst pieces quickly.
- Assume the opponent can hand you an extra move at the cadence boundary.

- The skipped reply happens on the opponent's turn.
- The cadence repeats every 8 completed player moves.
